Nigel Waddington Jazz Orchestra

Self-taught composer Nigel Waddington was born in Frimley, Surrey in 1964 and began playing the trumpet at the age of 13. While listening to late-night broadcasts of the BBC Radio house orchestras he first became fascinated with harmonic and instrumental colours. This led to an interest in writing for large jazz ensembles. Nigel's many influences include composers such as Thad Jones, Bob Mintzer, Vince Mendoza, Maria Schneider, early Gil Evans, Stan Kenton, as well as Aaron Copland, Paul Hindemith, and Ralph Vaughan Williams. Some of the results of Nigel's studies can be heard on After A Journey, his acclaimed debut cd, featuring the 20+ musicians of the Nigel Waddington Jazz Orchestra (including Anneke on horn and Jeff on Bass Trombone and Tuba). Nigel's second compact disc is currently under production. To find out more about Nigel's work (or to buy some cd's - ahem), go to www.jazzcds.co.uk or email Nigel at nwad@ukonline.co.uk
