Tim Whittemore is one of the brothers I never had. (He's the one who doesn't fight crime in his spare time.)

In 1994, just before I moved to England, we had an all-nighter at Seagull Studios in Salisbury, MD. I played a bunch of didjeridoos and a couple of Mongo Bats, which are kids toys that I picked up at a Toys-R-Us when I saw them marked down from $14.99 to $2. They're basically big bats that go "BOOOOOONG" when you strike them on something. Tim Starnes (later to be involved in the production of the "Lord of the Rings" films) sampled various bat sounds and used them to construct all the drum-like sounds heard in this track. Other instruments heard on this track include Flopophone, vocal jungle noises, and possibly the mightiest percussion instrument ever invented, the Recycle Bin.

This track is taken from Tim's cd Liquid Didj: Submerged.

The Scene:

"...the ripples form in the puddles of dew under the rainforest canopy, then the leaves begin to shake, then we hear the birds cry as the sound of cracking tree limbs comes over the forest. Through the trees we see blurred movement, glacially steady, yet with a definately funky momentum. Finally, the trees part in the clearing, and Mongorilla stride/slopes into the clearing, leading a myriad of animals, all parading behind, hoping to catch some of Mongorilla's hip vibes. They all dance as a bunch of monkeys jam on logs, then Mongorilla, always the hipster, decides it's time to leave while everything is still cool and everybody is having a good time. He slinks off into the jungle, looking for the next bunch of repressed animals in desperate need of a 20 foot tall fluorescent yellow ape in a Hawaiian shirt and sun glasses. Get the picture? I bet Mongo lives on 7-11 Slurpees." - Jeff Miller and Mr. Jack Daniel, describing "Mongorilla" in 1994.
